Pioglitazone & Metformin Sustained Release Tablets
PIOSTERIS M is a combination medication used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains two active ingredients: pioglitazone and metformin. Pioglitazone belongs to a class of drugs called thiazolidinediones, or glitazones, and works by improving the body's sensitivity to insulin. Metformin is a biguanide medication that helps lower blood sugar levels by reducing glucose production in the liver and increasing glucose uptake in the muscles.
PIOSTERIS M is taken orally in the form of a tablet, usually once a day, with or without food. It is often used in combination with a healthy diet and exercise to help control blood sugar levels.
Like all medications, PIOSTERIS M can have side effects. The most common side effects include gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. Pioglitazone may also increase the risk of heart failure, especially in people with a history of heart disease or heart failure.
