Metaprolate XR belongs to the class of medications called beta-blockers. Metaprolate is used to treat high blood pressure and prevent the symptoms of certain types of angina (chest pain). Metaprolate is also used to help reduce the risk of death right after a heart attack. Metaprolate is is available in strengths of 12.5 , 25, 50 and 100 mg.
