FENOFIBRON is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as fibrates. FENOFIBRON is primarily used to treat high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. FENOFIBRON is prescribed to lower elevated levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol (often referred to as "bad" cholesterol), triglycerides, and to increase HDL cholesterol (often referred to as "good" cholesterol").
FENOFIBRON activates an enzyme called lipoprotein lipase, which helps break down triglycerides in the blood. FENOFIBRON also reduces the production of triglycerides in the liver and increases the elimination of triglycerides from the blood.
FENOFIBRON is available in strengths of 145, 160 and 200 mg.
