LACOSMILE is an antiepileptic drug (AED) that is primarily used to treat partial-onset seizures in adults and adolescents (ages 16 and older) with epilepsy.
LACOSMILE works by selectively enhancing the slow inactivation of sodium channels in the brain, which helps to reduce the excessive electrical activity that leads to seizures. LACOSMILE is believed to have a dual mechanism of action, involving the modulation of sodium channels and the enhancement of collapsin response mediator protein-2 (CRMP-2) function, which helps stabilize neuronal networks.
LACOSMILE is available in strengths of 50, 100, 150 and 200mg.
