Acotiamide (300 mg ER)
ACOTIAMATE is a medication used to treat functional dyspepsia, a condition characterized by symptoms such as upper abdominal pain, bloating, and early satiety (feeling full after eating only a small amount). It works by enhancing the function of the muscles in the gastrointestinal tract, which can help to alleviate symptoms.
ACOTIAMATE works by inhibiting the activity of an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase, which breaks down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is involved in the regulation of gastrointestinal motility and secretion, and by inhibiting its breakdown, ACOTIAMATE medication can increase the concentration of acetylcholine in the gastrointestinal tract, enhancing its effects.
ACOTIAMATE is typically taken orally, usually three times a day before meals, and its effects can be felt within a few days of starting treatment.
ACOTIAMATE is available in the strengths of 100 & 300 mg.
