Obeticholic Acid (5 mg)
OB-COLLAR is a medication used to treat primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), a rare autoimmune liver disease that can cause liver damage, scarring, and cirrhosis. It is a selective agonist of the farnesoid X receptor (FXR), a nuclear receptor that plays a key role in regulating the metabolism of bile acids.
OB-COLLAR works by reducing the accumulation of toxic bile acids in the liver, which can help to slow or reverse the progression of liver damage in patients with PBC. It is taken orally once daily and is available in tablet form.
Common side effects of OB-COLLAR include itching, fatigue, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. It is important to follow your doctor's instructions carefully when taking this medication, and to not stop taking it suddenly without consulting your doctor, as this can cause a flare-up of symptoms.
OB-COLLAR may interact with other medications, so it is important to tell your doctor about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and dietary supplements. It is also important to have regular liver function tests while taking this medication.
OB-COLLAR is available in strengths of 5 & 10 mg.
