Saxagliptin (5 mg)
GLISAXAPIN is an oral medication that belongs to the class of drugs known as dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. It is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
In type 2 diabetes, the body either does not produce enough insulin or becomes resistant to the effects of insulin. GLISAXAPIN works by inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme, which leads to increased levels of a hormone called incretin. Incretin hormones stimulate the release of insulin from the pancreas and decrease the production of glucose by the liver. By increasing incretin levels, GLISAXAPIN helps to lower blood glucose levels in people with type 2 diabetes.
GLISAXAPIN is prescribed as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is usually taken orally once a day.
