Linagliptin is a medication used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It belongs to a class of drugs called dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. Linagliptin works by blocking the action of the DPP-4 enzyme, which increases the levels of incretin hormones, such as GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide). These hormones help regulate blood sugar levels by stimulating insulin secretion and decreasing the production of glucose in the liver.
 Linagliptin is prescribed to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is often used in combination with diet and exercise or other antidiabetic medications.
