Olmesartan (20 mg) and Amlodipine (5 mg) are commonly prescribed medications used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension). They are often prescribed together to provide better control over blood pressure levels.
Olmesartan belongs to a class of medications called angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), while Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker (CCB).
Olmesartan blocks the effects of a hormone called angiotensin II, which constricts blood vessels and increases blood pressure. By blocking angiotensin II, olmesartan helps relax and widen blood vessels, allowing for better blood flow and reducing blood pressure.
Amlodipine relaxes and widens blood vessels by blocking the entry of calcium into the smooth muscle cells of blood vessels. This results in reduced vascular resistance and lower blood pressure.
