Digoxin (30 mg)
DILTITAB is a medication that is prescribed to treat heart failure and certain types of irregular heart rhythms, such as atrial fibrillation. It is derived from the foxglove plant and belongs to a class of drugs known as cardiac glycosides.
The mechanism of action of DILTITAB involves its ability to inhibit the sodium-potassium ATPase pump in cardiac cells. By inhibiting this pump, digoxin increases the levels of intracellular sodium, which subsequently reduces the activity of the sodium-calcium exchanger. As a result, there is an increase in intracellular calcium levels within the heart muscle cells.
Additionally, DILTITAB has a secondary effect on the electrical conduction system of the heart. It helps to slow down the electrical impulses through the atrioventricular (AV) node, which can be beneficial in certain cases of atrial fibrillation. By slowing down the conduction, DILTITAB can help to control the heart rate in patients with rapid and irregular atrial fibrillation, thereby improving the heart's efficiency and reducing symptoms.
DILTITAB is available in strengths of 30 & 60 mg.
