Dienogest (2mg)
DEINOGESTEROL is a synthetic progestin, which is a type of hormone that resembles progesterone, a naturally occurring female sex hormone. DEINOGESTEROL is primarily used as an oral contraceptive, meaning it is taken in the form of a birth control pill to prevent pregnancy. DEINOGESTEROL is also used for other medical conditions such as the treatment of endometriosis, a disorder in which tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus grows outside the uterus.
As a progestin, DEINOGESTEROL works by inhibiting ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovary) and altering the lining of the uterus to make it less receptive to implantation of a fertilized egg. DEINOGESTEROL also thickens the cervical mucus, making it more difficult for sperm to reach the egg.
