Sultamicillin (375mg)
SULTAMYLIN
Sultamicillin is a prodrug of ampicillin and sulbactam. It is commonly used as an antibiotic medication for the treatment of bacterial infections. Sultamicillin contains two active ingredients: ampicillin and sulbactam.
-
Ampicillin:
- Ampicillin belongs to the class of antibiotics known as penicillins.
- It works by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, leading to the death of susceptible bacteria.
- Ampicillin is effective against a wide range of bacteria, including some gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
-
Sulbactam:
- Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor.
- It works by inhibiting the activity of beta-lactamase enzymes produced by some bacteria. Beta-lactamases are enzymes that can inactivate certain antibiotics like penicillins, rendering them ineffective.
- Sulbactam helps to enhance the activity of ampicillin by protecting it from degradation by beta-lactamases.
