A suffix is the ending part of a drug’s generic name, and it often hints at what the drug is used for. This guide makes it easier to understand what a medicine does just by looking at its name.This approach is not just helpful for doctors and pharmacists it’s a great learning tool for medical students, nurses, paramedics, and even patients who want to understand their medications better.
1. –prazole
- Examples: Omeprazole, Pantoprazole
- Meaning: These are Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs).
- Use: Treat acid reflux, gastritis, GERD, and peptic ulcers by reducing stomach acid.
2. –dazole
- Examples: Albendazole, Metronidazole
- Meaning: Anti-helminthic or anti-parasitic drugs.
- Use: Treat intestinal worm infestations and protozoal infections.
3. –fenac
