Nicorandil (5 mg)
MAYORANDIL is a medication that is used to treat angina, a condition characterized by chest pain or discomfort caused by reduced blood flow to the heart muscle. It is available in tablet form and is taken orally.
MAYORANDIL works by two mechanisms of action. Firstly, it acts as a potassium channel opener, which helps relax and widen the blood vessels, allowing for increased blood flow to the heart. This action reduces the workload on the heart and helps relieve the symptoms of angina. Secondly, it also has a direct action on the smooth muscle cells of the coronary arteries, causing them to dilate and further improving blood flow to the heart.
In addition to its vasodilatory effects, MAYORANDIL also have cardioprotective properties. It has been suggested that MAYORANDIL help prevent damage to the heart during episodes of reduced blood flow, potentially reducing the risk of heart attacks and other cardiovascular events.
MAYORANDIL is available in strengths of 5 & 10 mg.
