Cilostazol
CILOSTAZONE is a medication primarily used to improve the symptoms of intermittent claudication—a condition characterized by pain, cramping, or weakness in the muscles, typically in the legs, during physical activity. Intermittent claudication is often associated with peripheral arterial disease (PAD), a condition where blood flow to the extremities is reduced.
CILOSTAZONE  works by inhibiting phosphodiesterase III, an enzyme that plays a role in the regulation of cellular processes. By inhibiting this enzyme, cilostazol increases cyclic AMP levels, leading to vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) and inhibition of platelet aggregation.
CILOSTAZONE is primarily indicated for the treatment of intermittent claudication. It helps improve walking distance and reduce the symptoms associated with reduced blood flow to the legs.
CILOSTAZONE is contraindicated in individuals with heart failure of any severity. It should be used with caution in patients with bleeding disorders, and its use may need to be discontinued before surgery.
CILOSTAZONE may interact with certain medications, including antiplatelet drugs and anticoagulants. It's important to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking.
The safety of CILOSTAZONE  during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not well-established. It should be used only if the potential benefits outweigh the risks, and consultation with a healthcare provider is essential.
