Cilostazol
CILOSTAZONE is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as phosphodiesterase inhibitors. It is primarily used for the treatment of intermittent claudication, a condition characterized by pain, cramping, or fatigue in the legs that occurs during physical activity and is caused by reduced blood flow to the muscles.
CILOSTAZONE works by inhibiting the enzyme phosphodiesterase III, which increases cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) levels in platelets and blood vessels. This leads to vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) and inhibition of platelet aggregation (clumping), resulting in improved blood flow to the affected limbs.
In addition to its use for intermittent claudication, CILOSTAZONE has also been investigated for its potential benefits in other conditions such as peripheral arterial disease and ischemic stroke prevention. However, its use in these areas is generally limited and specific to certain cases.
