Ursodeoxycholic Acid (450 mg)
UDCHOLIC SR
Ursodeoxycholic Acid (UDCA) is a medication primarily used to dissolve cholesterol gallstones and to treat certain liver diseases. Here's some information about Ursodeoxycholic Acid:
-
Indications:
- Cholesterol Gallstones: Ursodeoxycholic Acid is approved for the treatment of cholesterol gallstones in patients who are not candidates for surgical removal of the gallbladder or who wish to avoid surgery. It helps dissolve cholesterol stones by reducing the production of cholesterol in the liver and by promoting the secretion of bile acids that can dissolve gallstones.
- Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC): Ursodeoxycholic Acid is the first-line treatment for primary biliary cholangitis, a chronic autoimmune liver disease characterized by progressive destruction of the bile ducts within the liver. Ursodeoxycholic Acid helps improve liver function tests, slow disease progression, and alleviate symptoms such as fatigue and pruritus (itching).
- Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC): Ursodeoxycholic Acid is sometimes used off-label to treat primary sclerosing cholangitis, another chronic liver disease characterized by inflammation and scarring of the bile ducts.
