Acetazolamide (250mg)
ATZOLAMIDE is a medication that belongs to the class of drugs known as carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. ATZOLAMIDE is often prescribed to lower intraocular pressure in certain types of glaucoma. By inhibiting carbonic anhydrase in the eye, ATZOLAMIDE reduces the production of aqueous humor, which helps relieve pressure on the optic nerve.
ATZOLAMIDE is commonly used as a preventive treatment for acute mountain sickness (AMS). When ascending to high altitudes, the body may have difficulty adjusting to the lower oxygen levels. ATZOLAMIDE helps stimulate breathing and improves the body's tolerance to altitude by increasing ventilation.
ATZOLAMIDE works by inhibiting the action of the enzyme carbonic anhydrase, which plays a role in the production of certain body fluids. By reducing the production of fluids like cerebrospinal fluid and aqueous humor (the fluid in the eye), acetazolamide helps to decrease pressure in the affected areas.
STERIS PHARMA Generic medicines are typically much cheaper than brand-name drugs. Generic medicines have the same active ingredients, strength, dosage form, and route of administration as their brand-name counterparts.
